Comment by Rick B on December 28, 2011 at 12:02pm I would like to invite all of the groups members to join the new Habitat for Humanity group. We are well underway with the new greenhouse. Currently we have 3 raised garden beds planted, with plans to add community garden plots in 2012. Farmers market to start again in Jan (1/14/2012).

Comment by Eric Stewart on September 3, 2011 at 2:01pm We've been having successful gardening meetings every other Thursday night at 7pm. The next meeting is at John and Libbie's home. I would love to come up with other plans/activities besides garden tours such as helping each other's actual gardens get going for the fall. Now is the time. We recently got some press on the New Port Richey Patch: http://newportrichey.patch.com/articles/code-green-community-promot...
Recently there has been a youth movement in the NPR area. I have tried to make attempts at communicating and working with this group but I have failed in establishing a connection. I find there is no decision making process or a leader that is willing to work outside of narrow guidelines (IE Revolution). While I understand the importance of Revolution or acting out against the system we live within, I wanted to create an Above ground organization. I want to remain our legitimacy in the eyes of the Law so that we can accomplish our necessary work of transition.

I want to be more public and host possibly a positive demonstration on Main street where the police could be invited as well as the public to promote creating jobs and restoring our community to fight the prescription pill epidemic thats been killing our economy/local area. We need solidarity of all the people of NPR not to separate and single out. We all live here and we all desire a better future together.

Organizers of Pasco County's Coastal Cleanup are looking for people willing to spend a couple hours in the morning sun — or rain, or both — bent over and snagging garbage as part of an annual clean-up effort that's been going on since the 1980s.
Comment by Eric Stewart on August 10, 2011 at 6:19pm Carrot Mob Habitat for Humanity: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=249968045023319
Carrot Mob- Carrot Mobs are Buycotts, forms of activism where groups of people come together to reward a business for doing the RIGHT THING! We want to organize a Buycott for the West Pasco Habitat for Humanity ReStore. For the past year a group of volunteers have been working REAL hard at getting an idea of a community location for people to work together on building a sustainable community in the New Port Richey area. We created the "Kinship Garden" a community garden in the abandoned acre lot of the Habitat for Humanity's ReStore. We need the community's help in "Save Kinship Garden" Campaign!
After a year of getting the soil ready we are ready to plant for the FALL! But our hopes have been slashed. Due to the difficult times with budget constraints the Habitat has had to cut back on programs we previously held on weekly basis. For the Past year we have shown biweekly a environmental film along with the other weeks hosted a Book club study on gardening as well as helping plan people's gardens/share seeds/ share plants and knowledge about gardening among our friends. We can no longer meet to do garden book study nights or host movies at the Habitat for Humanity due to budget constraints.
But we may have a chance to SAVE KINSHIP GARDEN! We want to organize a campaign for people over the next month to purchase something from Habitat for Humanity's Restore (Lots of GREAT Stuff to purchase at real low prices!) and leave a hand written note to be delivered to the board of directors of how much you would like to "Save Kinship Garden" and how your purchasing today to reflect that support. We want the Board of Directors to feel rewarded by the community if they see people are coming out and supporting Habitat because of the community effort put in their back lot they may change their mind on other ideas brought up for the back lot of Habitat for Humanity.
The opposing idea to continue the Habitat for Humanity mission is renting spots on top of the already established garden for Trailers. Either WAY- we have great ideas of how the Garden can be sustainable and want the community's support/ideas as well. We hope to coordinate volunteers to make the garden self sufficient and support the role of Habitat for Humanity by continuing to build affordable housing in the Community and Retrofitting existing homes for in need family's!
Which Idea do you like better? So come out! Save Kinship Garden! Purchase from Habitat for Humanity and Sign up to Volunteer! We need people out in full force! Share with all your New Port Richey friends. We have been a hurt community these past few years and especially past few week with recent events, its time we grow Kinship and sow seeds of a sustainable community working together.
Save Kinship Garden!
Purchase from Habitat for Humanity Restore!
Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity!
Make a REAL DIFFERENCE!
Lets help everyone in the New Port Richey have a Home, a garden, and a job one community project at a time!
Comment by Eric Stewart on August 10, 2011 at 5:32pm Due to Budget and staff cuts we will no longer be hosting films or gaia's garden meetings at the Habitat for Humanity venue. We are going to seek out a new venue for our gardening meetings and perhaps focus more on each others yards and actually digging.
As for the actual garden, the directors were given our proposal of making it a community platform for the local community to grow and develop a gardening campaign. We will find out on Thursday the information about if the Board of Directors approved the idea and what is to be done with the garden.
We really had no idea till after Aug. 4th what was going to happen, for months we have been trying to suggest or arrange a transfer to volunteers but the Board of Directors has not made decisions.
If you have ideas of how we can progress this group forward please lets hear all and any!
Thanks,
Eric
