The Eric Scott School of "Own Your Sh*t"

Eric and I are very proud of our two sons.  They are kind, good humored and hard working young men.  As parents, over the years we’ve done our share of the good cop - bad cop routine.  The majority of the time I was the good cop and Eric was the bad cop.  His most effective parenting strategy for the teen years was to tell the boys to “own your sh*t”.  This technique covered the gamut from homework completion and chores around the house to major moral decisions faced by all teenagers such as…See More

Alternative cooking and raw food realizations

Posted on November 19, 2011 at 5:59pm 0 Comments

The goal for August was to spend the month preparing our food in new and interesting ways.  We swore off the stove and grill.  We don’t own a microwave.  I melted the door in a tragic kitchen incident years ago and we just never replaced it.  So we were left with fire, raw food and rocks.

When we planned these months almost a year ago we obviously didn’t take into account the monsoon weather of a typical Florida August.  We had prepared fire…

TP or not TP

or

Will barter for tech

skills

TP or not TP was the question that started this month.  November is “no waste” month.  Our goal is to not put anything into the waste stream.  Whatever comes into the house has to be recycled, composted, or reused.  We began talking about what that would look like about a month or so in advance.  After our experiences with…

Eric....is that you???? Volunteer Month Part II

Sorry for the delay in posting. Currently, Anna and I are in the “harvest” time of the year at our jobs. Things have ramped up considerably and we have some catching up to do. We have been actively chipping away at our goals, keeping notes and hope to get caught up this month.

So… this narrative will be Volunteer Month from Eric’s perspective.

Anna took the bull by the horns…

Thanks for followin my challenges!  You were part of the inspiration for me!  I read your article in the newspaper earlier this year.  Your real life experience and the humor you add to your blog is wonderful!  I look forward to meeting you guys some day and sharing more strategies to make a difference in the world!

Eric and Anna, Perhaps you already know....and I don't think the timing is convenient....but, our SEMINOLE DISCUSSION GROUP ON RECYCLING AND SUSTAINABILITY is hosting Florida Nursery,Growers, and Landscaping Association (FNGLA) on Monday morning, June 6, 2011, 10:00 am to noon, at the Seminole Community Library. I know this is just a little before school ends for this school year. Darn. Well, if Eric and you are not able to attend, please let other folks know about the meeting. The FNGLA will be distributing some brochures and giving away some plants. Many other groups have also been invited to attend....including: Florida Native Plant Society, Florida Farm Bureau, Sierra Club, City of Seminole Council Members, and our green-thumb friends and neighbors. Would love to see you then. If you cannot attend, I understand! Mary
