Seeking Directors for Code Green Community

Hello Community,

I'm putting together this blog to ask for your support and feedback. Since 2008 this website has grown exponentially with just myself operating the site and networking with people. In 2010 another website formed in the Tampa bay area called Going Green Tampa ( www.goinggreentampa.com) and has growing as well. Both our website have very similar functions and the owner of the site Lisa Custer and I have become friends over the past several years working together at events and networking.

I'm in the process of speaking with Lisa and her partner Tara in merging our websites. These ladies are great they have done an awesome job with Going Green Tampa  (www.goinggreentampa.com)  and I feel by partnering with them we can create a new website that is on a whole new level. The website would be a for-profit and make its ends meet through advertising and producing content both for free and for purchase. The new website would be national, with regional branches. My Code Green Community website will be in limbo unless people can help with it and i'm trying to find a purpose for it after the next several months when this new website becomes operational.

Till that website is created:

What would you like to see the website become? I would like it to become a non-profit and actually start programs up locally but I cannot do it alone and with the kickstarter failing I cannot keep creating new youtubes traveling all over Tampa bay. ( http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DB3LX26 ) I'm in search of volunteers who are willing to work with me on the website. I need people who are willing to take on the responsibility of becoming a director of Code Green Community and help me set-up programs to help benefit the community. We will have the benefit of a the Going Green Tampa's new website. Code Green Community will still be dedicated to the local Tampa bay community.

Code Green Community has always had Objectives and specific Actions it was meant for: http://codegreencommunity.com/profiles/blogs/objectives-actions-alo... I feel it has done a great job at it and I want to find a group of people willing to help the objectives continue. I would love the website to be a hub of activity for people to find information and connect with people locally. I always keep in mind the concept of Crowdsourcing and it has worked great in allowing me to focus on the website while people upload content. (Where as with Going Green Tampa the ladies upload and write all of the content and events themselves) A great example of this is the crowdsourced fruit tree map that has over night had dozens and dozens of fruit trees added to it.

Should I do another smaller Kickstarter to keep creating youtubes? (We raised $2,000 out of $18,000 not bad!)

What would you like to see the website become? Please take the survey http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DB3LX26

Would you be interested in becoming a director of Code Green Community? (Partner with me on developing the website and mission)

Discuss! Thanks!

P.S.: Since October I've been working at GreenDreams retail store but in March the retail store closed and I started back working at a local restaurant called Pappas Ranch. I've been told recently that the Restaurant is closing during the day over the summer and eventually totally closing. So my personal job is also in Limbo. I never thought Code Green Community would me a money making venture- but I cannot continue to pay the costs of the website unless support is given. I'm going to need to do some sort of fundraising in May or June to continue it. On another note, Does anyone know of a great paying job for an idealistic passionate young man? I'm getting kinda bummed out by the series of bad events in my life. Losing jobs , my computer is barely working (Making weird white noise sounds making it difficult to edit videos thats why my frequency of youtube making is down) , my truck always seems to have something always going wrong with it (meanwhile I'm constantly traveling around Tampa bay for free paying all the expenses myself)  all of it is adding up to me not able to personally continue Code Green Community unless the community takes on the responsibility of the website. This website has been a labor of love, but unfortunately love doesn't pay the bills!

Code Green has been an "umbrella" and you are saying that Going Green is an "umbrella" and Barefoot Gardeners has also been an "umbrella" for almost 7 years...so would that function continue for Code Green?  I'm not clear on what you have in mind....maybe you're not sue either.  Merging could work, but then the name Code Green would mean something else....need to be careful to avoid much confusion, go slowly, think clearly and thanks for asking for feedback...and consider this, MANY people are unable to support with time or finances but their moral support is valuable.  And the Time Bank is a phenomenal tool and step stone to transition into the New Earth.  It's a key, a crucial key to the success of us all!

Highly suggest you joining and participating in the Tampa Bay Time Bank.  I am fast approaching the same situation as yourself and many others in the Green Movement are also there already.  Being Green can involve much simplifying in life which can lead to less money and time needed to lead a thriving life.  I am considering how to participate in a Time Bank with the Tampa one being too far away for me, so I plan to see who can start one up here in Polk County...

Most people are tight on money these days.  Maybe focus on selling advertising on here to support you and the site?  We can also do a fundraiser.  A plant/rummage sale/raffle would probably raise the money for a new computer.  As far as the traveling around.....ask and you may receive.  When people ask you to speak why don't you ask for a stipend to cover traveling expenses?  A small amount just to pay for gas.

I know it's not great paying but what about going into teaching?  Just think how much good you could do there.

Also....maybe it's time to rethink the film.  Is there a way to do it cheaper?  Is there someway to entice a corporate sponsor?  Think companies that like to use the word green but generally aren't.   ex:  Publix = Greenwise.    ---Vic

The way to get sponsors is ask people that we use the products to sponsor us. I am not sure what the site is all about and I am just learning and willing to help out however I can. I can use some help at my house with leveling a patio and making it food sustainable. I also would help provide 2 computers and the internet and a nice working space for you to use if needed along with a new camera that takes great videos. I am available most weekends. If you are interested in any of the above please call me tomorrow and you are welcome to come out and see the place and let me know what your needs are and what the site is all about. I would like to see more solar sponsors and other natural living sponsors. I like the idea of non profit and it is never easy getting the 501 c 3.

I would help with that if needed. I need to see your business plan and we could go from there.

I don't know what to tell you.

I am willing to include this site with what I am trying to do in Hernando

which is food sustainability

but I have no money and can not travel around much in the county

much less leave it.

I don't know how to make anything pay - never could do it beyond the necessities
