Comment by Andy Karpinski on June 29, 2011 at 2:01pm I have a flat built-up roof on the back two rooms of my house. I apply a coat of that white elastomeric roof coating they sell in Lowe's and Home Depot to this roof area every couple years to extend the time between roof replacements. It does make a noticeable improvement in the temperature of those two rooms after applying this coating. There is no active heating or cooling system in these two room (a Florida room and a storage room).
The rest of my house has a cement tile roof. The tiles are made with white cement, so they are white the whole way through and don't have to be painted. They should be pressure cleaned every so often, though, for best reflective properties..
Comment by Eric & Anna Scott on June 28, 2011 at 12:28pm The guy in the video uses a latex type paint. I've also read about more reflective "roof coatings". Has anyone done this? Have recommendations for type of paint or coating?
